Finished Dog Model

I've finished the modelling for the dog, and given it a simple texture.

Dog Model Progress

I have started work on the head and it's coming along.

New Project - Dog Model

I want to practise and develop my modelling and rigging skills, so I am making a dog!

I made some rough drawings to use for reference, because I don't really know enough about dog anatomy to draw something I'm sure of for orthographs.

I have also been looking at lots of photographs - I'm basing this on a Rottweiler.

This is my progress on the legs. I will add more edge loops to support the joints.

I'm going to start work on the head, next. I am looking at photographs and anatomical drawings for reference, and will make different drawings for orthographs.

I'm enjoying having a reason to spend extra time with my own dogs, although they are chihuahuas, it's still useful!

Minor: Character Model

Below are some preliminary renders of my model. I have also included some captures of the model and orthographs in Maya. I have deviated slightly from the 2D drawings, in order to more closely capture my character in 3D. I will do some tests with the aiToon shader to further bring this character to life.

Minor: Body Model Progress 4

I have updated the hands and added feet. The hands look much more like my characters hands now. I think I'm almost there with this, I am happy with it.

Here is the whole model. I will make a post with wireframes and some nice renders soon.

Minor Project: Body Model Progress 3

I have done some more sculpting on the body and added a hand. I have been having some trouble with it, but it's much closer to what I want than it was before.

Minor: Body Model Progress 2

I've done some more sculpting around the arms and torso and built the legs. I want to do some more work around the pelvis, but I am quite pleased with how this is going. I might move on to the hands and feet now, and come back if I need to.

Minor: Body Model Progress 1

I've started modelling the body. I've ended up deviating from my orthographs quite a lot with the arms, especially as there were a lot of mistakes with the sizing in them. I have updated the orthographs to make it a bit better and I think that with the legs and hands it will look even better.

These are the changes I've made to the orthgraphs. The ones on the left are from Premise and the updates are on the right.

Minor: Head Model Progress 8

I've sculpted a bit more and added in some eyelashes. I think I'm pretty much there with the head now. Time for the body!

Minor: Head Model Progress 7

I have started adding details such as the ear and eyebrows.

I've just added some lamberts to the model to get a better idea of how closely it resembles my character. It's definitely getting there and I think the eyelashes will make a big difference!

Minor: Head Model Progress 6

I have been making some progress with my head model. I think that some of the things that have been bothering me about it have been solved by reorganising the geometry and moving away from copying the drawing exactly. This has definitely been the case for the nose and the back of the head going into the neck. I've shown some of the progress and the changes I've made below.

At this point I decided that the neck/jaw wasn't working and I needed to change some things around.

I made some changes to the geometry and moved the neck into a different position. I'm much happier with this. I've also done some general cleaning up and sculpting around the mouth and brow.

The next steps are:

Build the inside of the nostrils

Build the throat

Create ears

Create detailed eyes
